10 things I learned from my mom.

mamaIn honor of Mother’s Day, I thought I’d pay tribute to my most favorite lady in the world.  I’ve learned a lot from my mom throughout the years, but here are a few gems that stick with me….

* Always remember birthdays. And anniversaries, and special events.  Send a card, people will appreciate it.

* If you have something nice to say to someone, say it.  Don’t hold it in just because it seems insignificant.

* No matter how long the car ride is, bring snacks.  Or just have a snack drawer in your car.  Actually, do both.

* Forgive.

* There is a right way and a wrong way to load a dishwasher ;)

* You don’t always need to follow a recipe.  Just use lots and lots of spices.  Just dump ’em right in.

* Everything happens for a reason.

* 3 words:  movie theater popcorn.

* Be nice to everyone.  Even if you don’t want to be – it’ll make you feel better in the long run.

* Coffee.  Lots and lots of coffee.

I love you mama Ziggy! ;) You mean the world to me and I couldn’t be more proud to have you as my mom.  I wish I could be there to celebrate with you today – but I’m so glad we got to kick it last week.  Good times (blap blap blap!)

Also, now that I’ve buttered you up, hopefully you won’t mind as much when I tell you that I just realized some of the coffee I served you last weekend expired in 2011….

Happy Mother’s Day!!

dirt.

A lot’s been happening in Thompson-land these days.  Between work and the still not-finalized possibility of moving next Friday (!!), life has been nuts.  I’m a little superstitous to talk about plans that aren’t 100% confirmed, so for now I’m staying quiet on specific details of said nuts-ness.

BUT, I will talk about how I am now a gardener.  True story.

My lovely, wonderful mom sent me a gardening kit for my birthday last week (thanks ma!) that had all kinds of tools and fancy gloves and something for a hose and all kinds of shenanigans to get started with our very first garden. I’m a huge lover of farmers markets and fresh veggies, so I’m super excited at the thought of actually producing my own… produce.

But let’s just be clear that I’ve never gardened before.  I helped weed a few times back in the day, but as an adult the closest I’ve ever been to gardening is dumping leftover ice cubes into an already dying desk plant.  I have a seriously bad track record with plants.  I once was given a cactus as a gift and I watered it so much that it drown.

But! I’m 28 now, so that means I’m capable of sustaining plant life.  Right?  Right.

We planted some of the seeds in little indoor pots over the weekend, so fingers crossed that those little suckers survive.  I feel like it’s going to work, especially since Casey and I did it together.  If not, I have someone to blame it on other than myself.  photo (65) photo (60)

have you?

The baby conversation has been a big one in our house lately.  I mean, we’ve been married for over two years, we’re in our late-20’s (gulp.) and most importantly – all our friends are doing it!!  But we’re just not quite there yet.

So, while my oven remains bunless for the immediate future, I can’t help but crack up at this website and imagine sending it to everyone I know when I’ve hit my ninth month of pregnancy.

Have you had that baby yet?
