a weekend in words.

I’ve taken approximately 3 pictures over the past week, which mostly just sucks for you guys because what’s a blog post without pictures?  You’ll have to rely solely on my wordsmithing skills to paint you a picture of my incredibly exciting life.  So… basically I’ve been having amazing hair days, the weather has been incredible and I’ve been doing the fanciest things.  Ok maybe only like, one of those things is legit.  I’m not going to tell you which one though, a girl needs to be a little mysterious, no?

But yes, I’ve been slacking in the photo department.  I think it was that we we’ve had so much going on over the past few weeks that I just wanted to do stuff for a few days without documenting it.  Photographically at least.  In theory it was great but now when I actually want to tell you about it, all I have are my words.  You’re welcome?  I’m sorry?

We did have a pretty great weekend though.  There was a beer festival with friends on Friday night, a birthday brunch in the park and then dinner at a friend’s house on Saturday, and Sunday was spent doing house-type projects before we treated ourselves to a picnic table crawfish boil at our favorite neighborhood bar.  A crawfish boil probably eliminates “doing fancy things” from my mystery list.  I didn’t really have you fooled on that one though, did I?

On top of all that PG13 fun, we also found time to hit up Home Depot, Target and Ikea.  We had lists and everything!  At one point on Saturday we considered trading in the Ford Focus for a minivan because really what’s left to do after you’ve spent the weekend brunching and dealing with window treatments going to the freaking park?  I think we aged 8 years over those two days… I kind of feel like I’m one light fixture away from getting bangs and joining a book club.

It was good weekend, whatever.  How was yours?

It feel weird not showing you any pics though – so here is one of the three photos I took over the last five days.

IMG_4174Again, not fancy.  And it has nothing to do with our weekend.  But oh man Portland, I do love your weirdness.

and it was good.

Good Lord that was an amazing weekend?  Don’t you agree?

I’m not sure if it was because I unexpectedly had Friday off of work or because it was so nice out or because we had the perfect combination of house stuff + friend stuff, but man, all the fun?  We had it this weekend.

As I said, I had Friday off of work so I spent the morning with this guy:gus goes to the park[ It’s not dangerous to drive with your dog on your lap while taking a picture, right?  No?  Cool, didn’t think so. ]

And then!  I met Casey for lunch at his office, which I’d never actually been in before.  It’s only been a year and a half…  But of course I forgot my phone in the car so I couldn’t be the annoying proud wife and take his picture in front of the building and by his desk and such.  Speaking of, boys’ desks are depressing.  Casey had no flair whatsover but he did have his gym towel hidden behind his computer – because of obvious reasons (??).   It was so nice though to be able to see where he works every single day.  And by the by, the Intel cafeteria wins.  Fresh sushi + fountain strawberry soda for me and fish and chips + fountain grape soda for him.  Yum.  Oh also, Casey refused to let me hold his hand while I was there.  Something about public displays of affection at work being embarrassing and stuff.  Such a dude.

Friday night was spent at a pizza place and then watching Arrested Development (new season = meh.),  Saturday was spent at the dog park (gus = spoiled) and then at a friends BBQ for the rest of the day/night.  There was lots of cornhole (AKA beanbags, for the midwesterners) and lots of eating.  I sucked at taking pictures so the only one I have from the day is:

Because you know, food.  Also, say hi to husband in the background – no doubt searching the cooler for a PBR.

Sunday we met up with some friends for a late breakfast and some be-bopping around our ‘hood… and then hit up our mecca (Home Depot) before diving into 5 hours of yard work.  I have a whole new level of respect for my parents because seriously, who knew that yards were so needy?  My back is all kinds of sore today from all that manual labor.  Don’t worry, our hard work was amply rewarded with homemade pizza on the grill + late-night s’mores, courtesy of our ghetto firepit.

Seriously, good times.  Nothing out of the ordinary but I think just appreciated it more after the past few shoot-me-now-types of weekends.

After all the sushi, pizza, BBQ, pizza, s’mores… today was a rough one in the getting dressed department.  The button on my pants is definitely working overtime today.  And ladies, can we all collectively agree that putting jeans on after you’ve put lotion on should be an Olympic sport?  Yeegads.

Onward!

a winter walk.

footsiesIn Portland, it’s really easy to get hit with the winter blues.  The gray skies, the rain, the cold, the damp air… it’s the perfect recipe for let’s-just-stay-in-and-watch-movies-type of lifestyle. (see: fort building for adults)  Which can totally be fun for a while, but eventually leads to me going stir-crazy bananatown in my apartment due to lack of fresh air on skin.  Luckily we live in such a great spot with super easy access to the river so we try to take advantage of it as much as possible.  It’s even worth dodging the homeless people on the sidewalk and inhaling second-hand weed as you walk by… because damn, it’s purty.

Happy Monday!  How was the weekend?  Ours was so so good!

On Friday we had the genius idea of building a fort in our living room.  So we did.  And it was awesome.  We watched movies and had a slumber party right there on the floor.  I felt like a kid again. Until 3am, when we had to get up and go to our bed because my hip hurt from sleeping on the ground.  Yep.

Regardless, I think we may need to instate Fort Fridays into the Thompson household.  So much fun!  I may just have to invest in some hip protectors.
